Digital Cocoon /2020/

Installation Digital Cocoon invites viewers into dark space highlighted with pins of digitally projected light. Floating in the middle of the room, skin-colored structures act as transmitters: they absorb blue synthetic light and distribute it over. Shadow drawing, passing through the structure, multiplies on the plain surfaces of the walls as a hidden reality of the inner world.

The collaborative project of Ekaterina Adelskaya and Liubov Kalashnikova reflects on the movement towards mobile or individual cocooning, whereby humans are immersed in their digital worlds. Cocooning is the social term that is used when a person closes off or hides from the normal environment, tending to stay at home motionless. The rapid growth of wireless technology has been contributing to an increase in the self-isolation in the cell phones screens.

As a butterfly transforms the plant leaves in the process of the cocoon formation, in the same analogy people overlap their protective habitat cocoons with the digital imagery, which burns holes in their physical and mental conditions.
